Your carpet plays a vital role in the look and feel of your home. Therefore, you want to make sure you do all you can to keep it looking as good as possible. It's a good idea to learn all the tricks and tips you can to getting everything from crayon stains and food stains out to repairing small burn marks. This article will help you keep your carpet clean and in good condition for a long time to come.

Removing crayon stains from carpet

Crayon stains are something that can be very scary. Luckily, there is a very simple trick that will easily remove all crayon stains out of your carpet, even those from red crayons which are generally the hardest to get out. All you have to do is take a nice sized ice cube and wrap it in a clean rag. Rub the ice cube directly on the stain until the stain comes out of the carpet. For big stains, you may need to use more than one ice cube.

Removing food and drink stains from carpet

When you spill something on your carpet, you want to act fast. Grab a clean, light colored rag and use it to immediately blot up as much of the liquid as you can. Don't push down hard or rub, this can push more of the liquid deeper into the carpet and make the stain worse.

Mix together a half a cup of vinegar, a tablespoon of clear colored liquid dish soap, and a couple cups of water. Put the ingredients in a spray bottle and spray a generous amount directly on the stain. Leave it to soak for a few minutes, then use a clean rag to dab the area. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get up stubborn stains, such as those from pasta sauce or red drinks.

Getting out burn marks

If you get a burn mark in your carpet, such as a burn mark from a dropped cigarette or match, you may be able to remove it to the point of making it nearly unnoticeable. To remove the mark, take a new razor blade and use it to gently scrape right under the scorched art of the carpet. Take your time with this making sure you don't just do a clean cut. A clean cut will make a noticeable hole where carefully scrapping will help the spot blend in with the rest of the carpet. This method also works for getting gum out.

These tips and tricks will help you to clean and/or repair your carpet so you can keep it looking great for as long as possible. If the tricks in this article don't help, you may need to turn to a professional carpet cleaning service such as Harper's Carpet Cleaners.
